Upcoming Interior Design Trends for A/W 2019
We were kindly asked to write a blog for Perfect Property on the big Interior trends for Autumn Winter 2019. Have a read of our style guide below:
Autumn/ Winter is almost upon us and with the change of season, it may also be time to look at your interior. This is an ideal time to prep your home and its inhabitants for the chillier months with a stylish yet cosy makeover. To be sure we provided you with the hottest upcoming trends from someone in the know, we asked Colette Roche of CR Interiors, to share her insider secrets:

This homely style is a big trend for Autumn Winter this year. Think brown leather, exposed wood & plaid prints, paired with some quirky farmyard inspired accessories. A farmhouse interior creates an instantly cosy feel, where warm tones and authentic beams enhance the country charm. The rustic look can be updated by cladding an interior wall with shiplap timber paneling, painted in a navy or off- white. We find this to be an increasingly popular client request for utility rooms and entrance hallways.

Pink is fast becoming a staple in interiors and homewares. The millennial pink tone was big news back in 2016, however, Pantone’s colour of the year for 2019 is a definite cousin to the rose hue. Living Coral was announced as the major shade of the year and this Autumn Winter we are seeing varying shades of terracotta, peach and blush. Whether painted on walls or used in furnishings, pink can be easily incorporated into any room in your home.
Colette shared, “My clients are getting braver and bolder when it comes to including this colour in their home, we are now seeing pink being used in bathroom tiles & kitchen units.”
Back to Nature

Natural interiors are big for the Autumn Winter season, think nature inspired hues and tactile finishes. By keeping your walls and ceiling neutral, it can provide the perfect backdrop for materials such as wood, stone, wicker and chunky knits to give a calm, balanced, serene feel. Layering these materials will also add a much needed warmth and interest to any room. Colette’s Expert Advice: “I would always encourage my clients to add pops of fresh green botanical’s throughout the living space to refresh and reinvigorate, creating the perfect finishing touch.”

Adorn your walls with jewel tones and your interior will be on point for Autumn Winter. Dark, inky tones combine with rich velvet textures to create an opulent, warm scheme. Shades of amethyst, ruby, sapphire and topaz can provide the perfect punch of colour to any room, these are currently seen in homewares such as velvet sofas, statement armchairs & velour pouffes. Don’t be afraid to go bold with moody hues. To make a room look larger, we suggest painting the back of the door to match the walls. The less you have to visually break up the space, the calmer and bigger it will look.

Public consciousness has turned firmly to helping the planet, so it’s only natural that sustainability is one of the biggest interior design trends to emerge this year. There is a focus on materials, what they are made of and where they came from. The key is to be mindful of the mantra ‘less is more’ and being aware of purchasing pieces of furniture for longevity, not just style. Eco-conscious homeware suppliers are increasing in Ireland now, which means it’s easier to source responsible pieces. Ethical interior décor is a trend that’s here to stay. Another large part of the sustainable trend is to upcycle pieces. “We actively encourage all of our clients to re-imagine a tired furniture piece, whether it be to paint it or locate it in a different room, before thinking of chucking it out.”
